"Me and my friends met with Coach (Gene) Chizik earlier this morning, and Coach Chizik said that he wanted to extend an offer," Hamilton told Inside the Auburn Tigers. "He said that he's been watching me and he's really impressed and really thinks that I can help Auburn get to another national championship.
"I really was thinking about committing, but I'll probably hold it off for a few more weeks. But, at the end of the day, I think Auburn is probably going to be my school."
The 6-1, 222-pound middle linebacker said the offer means a lot because he's always wanted to attend Auburn.
Hamilton said Big Cat Weekend was "awesome" and that he understands why the Tigers get so many commitments from players who attend the annual event.
Jeremy Johnson, a teammate of Hamilton's at Carver High, recently committed to Auburn, which is something Hamilton said he's thought about before and after receiving an offer.
"Coach Chizik mentioned to me how great it would be for me to team up with Jeremy Johnson, and I thought about it also," Hamilton said. "There's nothing better than going to a college where you have a good friend and former high school teammate and great childhood friend at the same school as being leader of the team."
Hamilton said he will be attending a summer camp at Auburn, where Chizik wants him to talk and work with linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen.
"I'm going to make a decision real soon," said Hamilton, who will be a junior this year. "Probably whenever I feel good."
