Already holding offers from Air Force and Auburn, Carlson tells Scout.com that he added an offer from LSU this weekend.
He comments, "Coach Miles met with me in his office after the kicking camp this weekend and we spoke for a little bit. He offered me based on what he had seen at camp and before. Coach Miles seemed really focused on Special Teams and I liked from what time I got to spend with him."
A decision likely will come in the following months, "I want to make a decision sometime this summer," he says. "Optimistically by the end of June after all my kicking camps but am in no hurry at this point."
Some of the factors according to Carlson will be, "Academics, coaching, weather and how I fit at the school."
Kohl's Kicking ranks Carlson as the #1 kicker prospect in the nation and the #30 punter in the nation. Here is what they say about his ability:
"Daniel is a 6'5 kicker with a huge leg, he went 10-10 at the Underclassman Challenge on FG and hit multiple 4.3 second hang-times, kicks well off the ground, will get better with more experience, seems to handle pressure very well and did well when put on stage, should draw top college offers, talent to be outstanding."
Carlson has been an All-State performer each of the last two seasons on the strength of 75 touchbacks and a 40 yard punting average.
