Talented Prospects On Hand For AU Team Camp

Several talented prospects are expected in for the team camp taking place Thursday and Friday in Auburn.

Auburn, Ala.—Football camp week heats up in a big way Thursday on the Auburn campus as more than 20 high school teams from around the South converge on the Plains to take part in a seven-on-seven passing tournament and also a lineman camp.

Several teams feature one or more talented prospects who will have the opportunity to spend time at Auburn and also improve their football skills.

One of the teams expected in is Huntsville High, a program that features a pair of Division I commitments already. On the defensive side of the ball Auburn linebacker commitment Cameron Toney is a powerful player who should be fun to watch in a passing tournament. Alabama offensive line commitment Grant Hill holds things down on the other side of the ball for Huntsville.

A talented receiver and a player very high on Auburn, Isaiah Jones and his teammates from Milton, Fla., High will be a team to watch the next two days. Despite being just a three-star prospect, Jones has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and Miami and among others.

Another wide receiver who should be on hand with his high school team is Florida commitment Marqui Hawkins from Carver High in Columbus, Ga. Coached by former Auburn standout Dell McGee, Carver has been loaded with prospects the last few years and could have several youngsters ready to get noticed.

Two South Alabama high schools that will be in feature a pair of receivers looking to increase their stock as well. From Greensboro speedy JeVontey Smith is one to watch while Deandre Mitchell (5-10, 165) does everything for Choctaw County.

Coming all the way from Fort Myers, Fla., Dunbar High will feature two of the top players in the camp in senior defensive back Johnell Barnes and junior wide receiver Ryeshene Bronson. Barnes is a three-star prospect with several nice offers while Bronson could be one of the top receivers in the nation for the 2014 class.

Another Florida school with a pair of prospects is Marianna featuring offensive lineman Ander Bodkin and 2014 cornerback Shaundre Macaroy. Already with several offers, Bodkin is a physical lineman that could see his stock rise as a senior.

Among the quarterback prospects to keep an eye on is big Christopher Herndon from Meadow Creek High in Georgia. At 6-4, 230, Herndon is also a standout basketball player. From Suwanee and Collins Hill High defensive end Chris Palmer, quarterback Brett Sheehan and wide receiver Justin Wyatt will be three top performers as well.

Other teams expected in for the camp include Smiths Station High, Columbia (Ga.) High from Decatur, Abbeville High, Alexander (Ga.) High from Douglasville, Banneker (Ga.) High from College Park, Chilton County High, Desoto (Miss.) Central High from Southhaven, Lithia Springs (Ga.) High, Pickens (Ga.) High from Jasper, Tattnall Square Academy from Macon, Ga., Trinity (Ga.) High from Sharpsburg, Turner County (Ga.) High from Ashburn, and Westfield High from Perry, Ga.

The camp will take place Thursday and Friday on the Auburn campus with the passing portion on the intramural fields and the line drills at the new track and field complex.
