Christmas Checks Out Auburn And Likes It

A football recruiting report is featured on big DeMarcus Christmas and his visit to check out Gene Chizik's Tigers.

Bradenton, Fla.--With early offers from FSU, South Carolina and North Carolina and with more offers likely to be on the way long before it is time for him to sign, it is no surprise that junior DeMarcus Christmas was a standout performer at an Auburn football camp on Sunday.

Measuring in at 6-3, 287 pounds the defensive tackle from Manatee High School caught the eye of Auburn defensive line coach Mike Pelton, who gave the class of 2014 prospect plenty of attention at AU's one-day camp for prospects.

"I really liked him," Christmas said of Pelton. "I learned a lot. I learned some pass moves and getting off the ball and stuff.

"Camp went great," he said of his first visit to Auburn and first football camp of the summer. "I liked everything--the campus and everything."

Christmas and a group of his teammates are on a lengthy road trip participating in camps or touring campuses. Before they head back to Bradenton the plan is to have also visited FSU, Mississippi State, Alabama and Samford.

Christmas said he doesn't have a favorite college now and is in no hurry to make a decision with his signing day more than a year-and-a-half away. Asked what he is looking for in college, the defensive lineman said, "A place I can fit in and feel like I am home still."

In addition to spending time with Pelton, the defensive tackle got a chance to talk with AU's head coach, Gene Chizik. "He told me Auburn is a great place," the prospect said. "I want to come back and visit and check it out some more."
