Decision Time For Four-Star Prospect

McGill-Toolen standout Jason Smith is expected to announce his decision Monday morning.

Mobile, Ala.—Four-star prospect Jason Smith has decided to put an end to his recruiting by making a public decision on Monday at 8 a.m.

With offers from Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Troy and UAB, the 6-1, 172 Smith has been high on the Tigers since getting an early offer from Gene Chizik and his staff.

Being recruited as a quarterback by Auburn, Smith recently had the opportunity to camp with the Tigers and work with new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler. Showing the ability to throw the ball accurately, Smith said Loeffler told him he was impressed by what he saw.

"Coach Loeffler knew I could run it, but he wanted to see if I could throw it, too," Smith said. "He was very impressed. He was like, ‘I like what I'm going to work with.' Coming from the offensive coordinator, it was amazing hearing it from him."

As a junior Smith accounted for nearly 2,000 yards of total offense and a combined 20 touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets.
