Pat's Picks: Coach Dye Predicts the SEC

College Football Hall of Famer Pat Dye picks this week's winners and losers in the SEC and other games around the nation.

Thirteen of the Southeastern Conference's 14 teams are in action on Saturday with the schedule featuring a matchup of unbeatens in the West and a showdown in the East that could determine who will represent that division in the league championship game.

There should also be several very interesting, competitive games outside the SEC this week with two of the games of national interest taking place at Big 12 stadiums. Here are this week's SEC matchups:

Kentucky (1-7, 0-5) at Missouri (3-4, 0-4)–This is the week the Tigers pick up their inaugural SEC victory.

Tennessee (3-4, 0-4) at South Carolina (6-2, 4-2)--After back-to-back losses on the road look for Coach Spurrier's team to take care of business at home vs. the Vols as the Gamecocks' defense causes problems for quarterback Tyler Bray.

Ole Miss (4-3, 1-2) vs. Arkansas (3-4, 2-2) at Little Rock--This has the potential to be a high-scoring game. I am going with the Razorbacks to win at home with Tyler Wilson having a big day throwing the football.

Florida (7-0, 6-0) vs. Georgia (6-1, 4-1) at Jacksonville--I think right now the Gators are making more good things happen than Georgia is. This is probably going to be a close game, but I look for the Gators to get out of Jacksonville still unbeaten.

Mississippi State (7-0, 3-0) at Alabama (7-0, 4-0)--I think the Bulldogs will play well on Saturday night, but Alabama is the better team and should win. If the Bulldogs were more of a spread team with the quarterback being an outstanding runner I think they would have a better chance of pulling off the upset. I don't think they will be able to consistently run the ball well enough to win because Mississippi State's receivers are good, but not great.

UMass (0-7) at Vanderbilt (3-4)--This should be an easy win for the Commodores.

Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2) at Auburn (1-6, 0-5)--I have picked Auburn a lot this year, but not this week. I really like Texas A&M's quarterback, Johnny Manziel. He makes a big difference and so does the good offensive line he is playing behind.

Defensively, the Tigers and Aggies aren't a whole lot different production-wise and Auburn may have the edge in the kicking game, but Manziel is having a fantastic season and should lead his team to a win Saturday night.

In other games around the country:

Notre Dame (7-0) at Oklahoma (5-1)--This should be one of the better games of the day. I like the Sooners to win at home because they have more offensive punch.

Texas Tech (6-1) at Kansas State (7-0)--Another good matchup in Big 12 country, this could be a close game, but look for Kansas State to stay unbeaten with this one being played in Manhattan where the old guy is tough to beat.

North Carolina State (5-2) at North Carolina (5-3)--I don't think homefield advantage makes in any difference in this game so I am going with the visitors because of their quarterback play.

Duke (6-2) at Florida State (7-1)--The Seminoles shouldn't have a major problem handling the Blue Devils even though Duke is having a better than normal season.

BYU (4-4) at Georgia Tech (3-4)--This should be a competitive intersectional game. The Cougars are coming off an emotional loss to Notre Dame so I am picking the Yellow Jackets to win at home.

Michigan State (4-4) at Wisconsin (6-2)--I like the Badgers to score enough points to win vs. a good Michigan State defense in what should be a close game in the Big Ten.

Michigan (5-2) at Nebraska (5-2)--This is another Big Ten game that could be tight. I like the visiting Wolverines to win in Lincoln.

Editor's Note: Coach Dye was 5-1 on his week eight SEC picks and 9-2 overall. For the season his record is 55-14 on SEC games and 87-30 overall.
