Pat's Picks: Coach Dye's Week 10 SEC Picks

Hall of Fame football coach Pat Dye gives his takes on this week's SEC games and other games of interest around the college football world.

Six of this week's eight games involving Southeastern Conference football teams kick off before noon, including the Homecoming contest on the Plains. Five of the matchups feature league games while three other SEC teams have non-conference opponents on the schedule.

There are several big games around the country this weekend, but none have two higher ranked teams going head-to-head than the matchup on Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Here is a look at this week's SEC games:

Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2) at Mississippi State (7-1, 3-1)-- I'm going to pick Texas A&M because I like the quarterback. Johnny Manziel seems like a great kid and from what we have seen so far he is obviously an outstanding player.

The Aggies have played good football throughout their first season in the SEC. Mississippi State is trying to bounce back after suffering its first loss, but I don't think the Bulldogs' defense will be able to contain the SEC's top offense.

Missouri (4-4, 1-4) at Florida (7-1, 6-1)--Missouri got to enjoy its first SEC victory last week with a home win at Kentucky. SEC win No. 2 is unlikely to happen in The Swamp against this Florida team and its strong defense.

Vanderbilt (4-4, 2-3) at Kentucky (1-8, 0-6)--Vandy is working to get bowl eligible and should take another step toward that goal with a road win vs. the Wildcats.

Troy (4-4) at Tennessee (3-5)--I can't pick Troy, but the Trojans could make it interesting.

Tulsa (7-1) at Arkansas (3-5)--This game will be a big deal for Tulsa and it could be a close one, but I am going with the Razorbacks to outscore the visitors in Fayetteville.

Alabama (8-0, 5-0) at LSU (7-1, 3-1)--LSU has been tough to beat at home under Les Miles, but there is no doubt that Alabama has been playing better this season than the Tigers. LSU will have to play its best game of the season to win, but I expect Alabama to get out of Baton Rouge still unbeaten.

Ole Miss (5-3, 2-2) at Georgia (7-1, 5-1)--I will pick Georgia in what has the potential to be a high scoring contest with both teams averaging better than 30 points per game.

New Mexico State (1-7) at Auburn (1-7)--The big mystery is how Auburn will play on offense with Jonathan Wallace making his first start at quarterback. I hope Auburn people are not expecting him to go out there and be perfect because he is just a freshman and he is going to make mistakes.

Wallace needs to go out there and not get too high or too low, depending on what is happening, and not let bad plays destroy his confidence. The only ball game the Tigers won this year was in overtime so I am sure not expecting this to be a runaway, but I am picking the Tigers to get their second win.

In other games around the country:

Oklahoma (5-2) at Iowa State (5-3)--This will be a close ball game, but I have got to pick Oklahoma because the Sooners have better players. Iowa State always comes to play, but doesn't always have enough talent to win.

Oklahoma State (5-2) at Kansas State (8-0)--This could be a test for Coach Snyder's team, but the way the Wildcats are playing there is no reason to expect Kansas State's unbeaten streak to end this week.

TCU (5-3)at West Virgina (5-2)--I like West Virgina, playing at home, to outscore the visiting Horned Frogs.

Nebraska (6-2)at Michigan State (5-4)--Look for the Spartans to play well enough on defense and find a way to win at home.

Texas (6-2) at Texas Tech (6-2)--Texas Tech should win this one at home in what has the potential to be a very competitive game.

Oregon (8-0) at Southern Cal (6-2)--I am picking Oregon to stay unbeaten. The way the Ducks are playing this year I don't see anybody in the Pac-12 who can beat them.

Editor's Note: Coach Dye was 5-2 on his week nine SEC picks and 7-7 overall. For the season his record is 60-16 on SEC games and 94-27 overall.
