"I committed to Appalachian State a few weeks ago," said 2013 RB Marcus Cox. "I just didn't tell a lot of people that my decision was made."

Cox's decision to verbally commit to App State means turning down a handful of offers, including Middle Tennessee, Ohio University and South Alabama.

"It's close to home," Cox said of his decision. "My quarterback [Brandon Gibson] is leaning toward App State as well.

"I love the situation I'm going into," Cox said. "The coaches up there are really nice and they're giving me a chance to compete as a freshman."

Although Cox has not taken an official visit this fall, he plans to take just one to App State after his final high school football game tomorrow.

What is App State gaining in their newest commitment?

"I'm a playmaker," Cox said of his ability on the field. "If I get the ball in my hand, I feel I can make a play. I'm somebody that can contribute in any way that's needed. Off the field, they don't have to worry about me getting into trouble or anything. I'll stay in the books; I have a level head as well."
