Linebacker Zach Cunningham was barely considered a high-level college prospect heading into his senior season, but finished the year with nearly 200 tackles. He had 174 tackles and a dozen sacks heading into the game at Muscle Shoals and tallied close to a dozen tackles versus the Trojans.

At 6-4, 205 with quicks and smarts, Cunningham went from being unrated by to a four-star prospect and is getting looks at defensive end and linebacker. Cunningham, who got his first offer within the last month, will likely sign with a BCS school and is getting offers from the SEC.

"I don't know what we're going to do without No. 34 over there either," Pinson Valley head coach Matt Glover said. "I don't want to think about it to be honest with you. He's just a great football player. He's opened a lot of eyes, and he's going to have an opportunity.

"We've put in a lot of time, a lot of work," Glover added. "These seniors for four years now have been busting there butts and shooting for this year. Hopefully, they'll learn from adversity and see that life isn't always how you want it to be. And hopefully we'll have some guys go on to play at the next level and be great football players for somebody. I'm proud of our guys."

The 2015 running from Pinson Valley had a superb game all-around. He was held in check for much of the night rushing the ball, but he contributed in the pass game and on special teams.

With 17 seconds left in the first half Muscle Shoals took a 10-7 lead on a field goal. Gibson returned the ensuing kick 66 yards, but Pinson Valley's field goal was missed.

In the second half he took a screen pass 64 yards for a touchdown which put his team up 21-17.

The Indians missed two field goals and had a punt blocked on special teams, which proved to be the difference. They also dropped a pass inside the five-yard line only to be picked off on the next play in the third quarter.

Tyler Jackson

Jackson is an extremely productive high school running back and punt returner and, like Cunningham, has been late to get interest from colleges. He had another solid night against Pinson Valley and chewed up lots of yards in the second half, including a touchdown in the third quarter to give his team a 17-14 lead.

In the fourth quarter while getting tackled by Cunningham, Jackson hit his head on the ground and play was stopped for close to 10 minutes as Jackson was taken off on the stretcher.

"I think he's going to be fine," head coach Scott Basden said. "It's just precautionary when you've got tingling. We wanted to be precautionary and get him checked out. He was awake and had all of his feelings."

Muscle Shoals will play Hartselle in the quarter-finals on Friday.
