Big Rally In Big Easy For Coach Flo's Tigers

The Auburn women's basketball team picked up a road victory vs. Tulane on Wednesday night In New Orleans.

New Orleans, La.--Trailing by 16 points at halftime the Auburn women's basketball team rallied to defeat Tulane 70-65 on Wednesday night.

Senior forward Blanche Alverson and sophomore guard Hasina Muhammad led the comeback with 21 points apiece as the Tigers improved to 5-2 for the season while Tulane fell to 5-1. Freshman center Tra'Cee Tanner added 14 points.

"I told them at halftime we were absolutely awful," Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "We weren't getting stops, we weren't making layups. We were an embarrassment to Auburn University and I made them feel I was so disappointed in them. I told them if that was how they were going to play I wasn't even going to coach the second half."

Her players responded with a 17-2 run to open the second half and then made clutch baskets and free throws down the stretch to pull out the victory.

Tulane returned four starters from a team that finished 23-11 last season. Auburn jumped to a quick early lead vs. the Green Wave, but had a major shooting slump and trailed 39-23 at halftime. The Tigers hit just 30 percent of their field goals in the opening half, but rallied to make half of their field goals in the second period to finish the game at 40.9 percent from the field.

Tulane led most of the game and was ahead by four poitns with under three minutes left. Alverson then hit a three-point field goal and Muhammad followed with a steal and drive to the basket for a layup and also made the free throw as she was fouled to put the Tigers ahead 64-62.

Tanner then scored inside for the Tigers, but Tulane's Danielle Blagg hit a three-pointer to cut the Auburn lead to one point with 31 seconds left. Tulane fouled freshman Tanner, who made both of her shots, and senior point guard Jet Ouardad also made two free throws to ice the victory.

The Tigers will take a 10-day break for final exams before playing again on Dec. 9th with a home game vs. Hofstra.
