Uzomah's Take On AU Hiring Gus Malzahn

Sophomore tight end gives his opinion on the team's feelings about Auburn's new head football coach.

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn sophomore tight end C.J. Uzomah knows his new head coach well and says he is more than just pleased that Gus Malzahn was selected to take over as head football coach for the Tigers.

"Coach Malzahn recruited me when I was in high school," Uzomah points out. "He came to my house once or twice and I got to meet him and his family during the recruiting year. I am real familiar with him and what he is about. He is a great guy."

Uzomah also notes he is looking forward to playing in Malzahn's offensive system. "I can't wait," the tight end says. "We will be back to a spread-run, play-action, up-tempo offense. It is going to be fun to get back into it."

Uzomah moved to tight end as a sophomore after playing wide receiver as a freshman.

Malzahn spoke to the team on Tuesday evening prior to his introductory press conference. Uzomah says his feelings about Auburn's decision to bring Malzahn back to AU are shared by his teammates.

"We all think it is a great hire," the sophomore says. "I think he gives us the best opportunity to win and I think I speak for the entire team when I say we all respect him. We are looking forward to getting things rolling."

Commenting on what their new head coach told the players, Uzomah says, "The first thing he told us is he wants us to finish the year right academically. He told us he wants us to represent Auburn the way it should be represented by Auburn men.

"The third thing he told us is to get ready," Uzomah adds. "We are going to be working hard and we are going to get things back on track.

"I think morale is high now," Uzomah says. "I think we were all kind of on edge wanting the process to be over. For us getting Coach Malzahn is a huge sigh of relief. He is a great guy. I think all of the players respect him. I think everyone is happy about this decision."
