December Stock Report

Southern Miss and new head Coach Todd Monken have hit the ground running. In our December edition of the stock report, here is an update on where the Eagles stand with over 40 prospects on the radar.

Let's dive right in to our December stock report, a monthly overall look at Golden Eagle recruiting.

In good standing:

-Tere Calloway, Ath, Seattle Prep- Calloway had a fantastic visit to Southern Miss over the weekend, and he really enjoyed his conversations with Coach Monken. Calloway has a goal of getting to the NFL, and one thing he loved is Monken's experience there and how ™ laid out a plan for him to get there. Calloway is very driven, and seems to mesh well with Monken's personality. In the end, I think the two are a perfect fit, and Calloway with his friend James Cox makes the call for Southern Miss.

-Fredrick Moore, OT, Jones JC- From nearby Heidleberg, Moore has been closely connected to Louisiana Monroe since his time in High School. He remains committed to them now, but family ties and the chance to get on the field in Todd Monken's system may just make the difference. We believe Moore ends up in Hattiesburg.

-Cameron Tom, OL, Catholic, Baton Rouge- Tom has been high on the list for Southern Miss for many months now. Considered one of the best lineman in Louisiana, Tom has three on his list, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and Louisiana Lafayette. With Pete Perot coming over from La Tech, it has to help the chances of the Eagles because he was recruiting Tom to Tech. Tom has visited campus and knows what Southern Miss is about, but will he commit? The Eagles are certainly the team to beat for him.

-Arie Anderson, DL, Stanhope Elmore (AL)- Anderson is a defensive lineman that named Southern Miss as his favorite a few weeks ago. One of those reasons was Coach Zo. Now, with things in limbo, Anderson is not sure where he leads at this point. Texas A&M was in on him, but they appear to be full. I think the Eagles make a late push for him and end up bringing him in the mix, especially if Coach Zo is kept on.

-Jarrion Johnson, WR, Jackson (AL)- Johnson is very much an under the radar receiver who is starting to hear from more schools. Southern Miss is the most recent to offer, but lately Auburn and Florida State have been moving in on him. Johnson is the type of play maker Coach Monken will be looking to bring in for his offense, and with his size, he can create some mismatches as well. He'll be one to keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.

-Nick Arbuckle, QB, Pierce College CC (CA)- The Eagles are looking to bring in a few JuCo guys to help provide an immediate lift, and Arbuckle could fit into that category. A QB with tremendous upside, the CA star has all the upside in the world. A strong arm and being mobile as well can only help his cause. Don't be surprised if his name pops up come signing day for the early prospects.

-Ryan Watson, WR, Golden West CC, Huntington Beach (CA)- recruited by Southern Miss out of high school and from Decatur, AL, Watson knows football in the south well. He's received an offer from the previous staff, but we are told that he is the type of player the Eagles could really use. He has spoken briefly to someone on staff, and is very interested in the Eagles. Blazing fast and a track star, he could fit a big need at WR.

-Jamari Staples, Ath, Ashland (AL)- Staples is a guy the Eagles were high on early in the summer, but he's still very much in the mix. He is very talented and has all the tools to be a top notch defender in the secondary or as a receiver. The Eagles are battling Troy among others for his services.

-James Graves, LB, Bassfield- Graves is one who the Eagles have been following closely. After really impressing at camps this past year, Graves had a solid season for the state champs. The Eagles have yet to pull the trigger on the offer, but appear very close to doing so. Graves is seeing a lot of attention from Louisiana Tech right now.

-Ladarius Slocum, CB, Tylertown- Slocum has dropped off a bit in recent weeks, but could see a surge again with the new staff. Slocum is really a talented player who has certainly gone under the radar in Mississippi. I expect the Eagles to continue to pursue the local star, but will an offer be coming?

-JJ Dallas, WR, Corpus Christi (TX)- Dallas has what the Eagles are looking for, good size and blazing speed. He had been talking back and forth with the previous staff, and now that Coach monken is on board we fully expect Dallas to be a target. His other interests include in state schools like TCU and Texas State.

On the outside looking in:

-Nick Haynes, TE, Niceville (FL)- Haynes has had an on again off again relationship with the Eagles. First he had a solid offer with them, and was close to committing. Then, he seemed to drop off some, but he took another visit to campus very late in the season. He says he is still interested in the Eagles, but will the new staff show that interest back? As of now, he has not heard from the new staff.

-Damien Wilson, LB, Jones JC- Wilson is from South Mississippi, but has a connection up north and has committed to Minnesota. He did have a great visit with the Eagles, and named them a solid #2. Could he have a late change of heart before early signing day on Wednesday? It is possible, but not likely. The Eagles have made a strong late push at him, however.

-Blake Worthy, LB, Gadsden City (AL)- Worthy was a LB that Coach Zo was pursuing hard and he had shown interest too. The Eagles were not in his top 2, but he was certainly interested. He's a nice prospect who is hearing from schools like Purdue and Arizona State. The Eagles are still at least in the conversation to get in the mix for him.

-Sam Pettway, S, UMS Wright, Mobile (AL)- Pettway was a hot name early in the summer during camp circuits. He seemed a lock for an offer, and was high on the Southern Miss program. He has since cooled off, but he had a very strong senior season. He was a rare South Alabama prospect this season for the Eagles, oddly enough.

-Khaderal Hodge, Ath, Mendenhall- The Johnson staff did not get in on Hodge like some might have expected. The talented under the radar receiver has a lot to offer, and perhaps the new staff could see him fitting into their system. While we haven't heard his name come up in a while, he's always liked the Golden Eagles. Don't be surprised to see his name surface over the next few weeks.

-Damarious Randall, CB, Mesa CC (AZ)- The Eagles dipped in to Arizona last year to land big Aaron Reed along the offensive line. They are looking there again in talented Randall, who has a bunch of offers. Southern Miss is in the mix, he names them along with a bunch of others in schools he's interested in, but anytime you can be mentioned you've got a shot.

-Kameron Doolittle, WR, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M CC- Doolittle is one I am throwing out because he was recruited by Monken's staff at Oklahoma State. You have to imagine that he's been thrown around name wise by the new staff. One to keep an eye on.

-Jermaine Antoine, WR, Loreauville (LA)- Antoine has been on campus through camps and really impressed the coaches. Now the talented receiver appears headed for TCU. Recruiting is a strange beast and things can change quickly, so don't count the Eagles out for him just yet.

Long shot:

-Tatum Taylor, WR, O'Dea HS, Seattle- Best friends with Tere Calloway, Taylor is one of the fastest players in the nation. Back in the summer he was set on taking a trip to Southern Miss with Calloway. At this point, its a real long shot, but who knows if Monken could work some magic on this guy and get him to buy into the system?

-Hakim Gray, LB/DE, (LA)- Gray was once very interested in Southern Miss, but ended up committing to Louisiana Tech last fall. With connections now coming to Southern Miss, Gray could consider the flip. We don't think it is likely at all, but still possible.

-Cethan Carter, TE, Rummel (LA)- The Eagle staff really liked Carter and made him an offer, but never could get him to visit campus. The Monken staff will take a try at him as well and see if they can pull him away from LSU where he'd have to wait a while to play.
