Coach Flo's Tigers Cruise Past Dolphins

The Auburn women's basketball team improved its record to 10-2 with a victory over Jacksonville University.

Auburn, Ala.--Freshman center Tra'cee Tanner came off the bench to produce her first collegiate double-double as the Auburn women's basketball team defeated Jacksonville University 85-49 on Saturday.

The Tigers improved their record to10-2 with their seven straight victory. The visiting Dolphins fell to 4-7 as Auburn's winning streak improved to its longest since winning 20 straight to start the 2008-2009 season.

Tra'cee Tanner scores for the Tigers.

Tanner led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points and added 12 rebounds. Her sister, junior guard/forward Tyrese Tanner added 16 points.

Tra'cee Tanner became the first freshman to produce a double-double since All-American DeWanna Bonner accomplished the it during the 2005-2006 season.

"We really focused on getting the ball inside and after Peyton (Davis) got hurt, I thought Tra'cee stepped in and did a really good job," Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "I thought the team did a really good job of getting the ball inside. That's why we came up with 28 assists in the game."

Williams-Flournoy noted she was "very pleased" with her freshman center. "She's actually been practicing a lot better probably the last two weeks or so. I think the clock finally ticked over and she realized she was not a silly freshman. She was actually someone that we could use and could be very helpful to our team. She began to practice a little harder, got a little stronger, understood a little bit more what we were trying to get out of her."

Senior point guard Jet Ouardad produced a career-best nine assists during a game she did not score. Fellow senior Blanche Alverson scored 16 points for the Tigers whole sophomore guard Hasina Muhammad added 10.

The Tigers took control of the game early and were never threatened after taking a 43-22 halftime lead.
