Khari Harding talks ASU visit

Khari Harding, a soft verbal commit to Arkansas, has been courted by the Sun Devils for several months now. This past weekend the Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe High School safety took an official visit to Tempe and shared his experiences from that trip with Devils Digest.

"The visit went well and I got to see everything I wanted to see," Harding commented. "A lot of the visit was focused on academics and how much they help their players. That is something that is very important to me. You look at Pat Tillman and how he came in (to ASU) with a 2.7 (GPA) and graduated in three and half years.

"Everytime Arizona State calls me they ask me about my studies. They focus on that as much as they focus on football."

It seems as if every Sun Devil official visitor talks about the strong sense of camaraderie they sense during their time in Tempe, and Harding voluntary shared those same exact sentiments.

"My hosts were Alden Darby and Rashad Wadood," Harding said, "so they showed me around and we had a lot of fun. Alden told me how much this team was family and if you ever need anything they will always have your back. No matter what it is, like if you need a place to stay…even if you're a freshman, they will always help you out.

"That's the thing that surprised me the most, how close everyone was. It's just been one year under these coaches and all the players like the coaches so much and listen to them. They don't sugarcoat anything and they will never lie to you. I like that a lot."

As a senior the 6-2 205-pound Khari Harding posted 115 tackles and aided Santa Fe to a 10-2 mark. In his junior year the safety collected 71 tackles. Harding reported weight room marks of 400 lbs. squatting and 275 lbs. benching. The safety noted that the system the ASU defense runs is certainly one that does suit his skill set.

"They showed how bad they want me at the safety spot," Harding said of the ASU coaches, "and how I fit their scheme perfectly because that is basically what we did in high school. The coaches said that I bring physicality because I'm a big safety. I'm 205 (pounds) right now and that's very big for a safety coming out of high school. I'm looking to get up to 220, 225 and keep my speed.

"They said they also like I'm not scared and I always come down and hit. They also like my hips, my feet and how I'm always around the ball."

The safety admitted that he likes the Sun Devils now more than he did before the visit and that he truly enjoyed interacting with the players and coaches. He is however not close to making a final decision considering his recruitment and is still exploring his options.

"I'm still committed to Arkansas right now," Harding stated. "I'm not sure if I'm going to visit them before signing day. I'm going to visit Auburn on Friday and I have no idea what visits I'm going to take after that. We'll see what happens later."
