When Louisiana's No. 1 2014 recruit makes visits to prospective colleges, he doesn't look forward to seeing facilities or getting wined and dined by coaches.
It's all about the interaction for Leonard Fournette.
"[I like] meeting new people," Fournette said. "I like meeting people other than myself that are good at football."
So when he made the trip to LSU this past weekend — a campus he's seen at least four times — he'd seen just about everything there was to see. But at least the company stood out.
Two of the people he spent time with were Class 4A rivals from Neville High School. He spoke with Laurence Jones and John Diarse, who enrolled at LSU only a few days ago.
He also rode up with Gerald Willis, someone he calls a close friend and a member of the Edna Karr team that eliminated Fournette from the playoffs.
"We had a good ride up…It was very interesting," Fournette said. "I finally got a chance to meet some of the best players in my area, in Louisiana."
The LSU coaching staff also took the opportunity to build its relationship with its top RB target for 2014. The theme of the weekend wasn't about pressing kids to commit early.
It was about getting to better know their recruits. So little talk was made about scholarship offers, competitors or even the sport that gathered them all together.
"They were just talking about life," Fournette said. "What's going on right now…Not too much about recruiting."
Fournette added that he enjoyed his visit and had an entertaining time interacting with players and LSU coaches. He said he will likely attend Alabama's Junior Day and will probably return to Baton Rouge later in the spring or summer.
Fournette enjoys the company at LSU
