"In accordance with his contractual obligation, Todd Grantham notified me Wednesday night of the New Orleans Saints' interest in interviewing him for the defensive coordinator position." McGarity, said in the statement.
During a live broadcast on Dawg Post on Wednesday, Chamblee DE Davin Bellamy said Grantham told him that he would do what's best for his family. Bellamy did not indicate that Grantham had talked with any NFL teams, but said the he was "committing to a school - not a coach."
"I understand doing what's best for your family," Bellamy said.
Grantham's contract stipulates he must contact McGarity if an NFL team contacts him. However, it was not made clear if Grantham would actually interview with the Saints or not - just that he'd been contacted by the team.
On Tuesday night, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter tweeted that the Saints "plan" to hire former Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan for the job. NBC Sports reported Wednesday the the Ryan-to-Saints is "basically a done deal."
Georgia's statement didn't say exactly when the Saints contacted Grantham.
