Talented California Back Talks Auburn Offer

Auburn offered California high school running back Joe Mixon and he talks about the Tigers.

Oakley, Cal.—Already with over 30 offers and counting, speedy running back prospect Joe Mixon from Freedom High is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in the 2014 recruiting class. On Monday his offers stretched across the country as Auburn and Clemson both came on board for the 6-1, 205 Mixon.

Familiar with Auburn after watching Cam Newton lead the Tigers to the 2010 BCS National Championship, Mixon says getting to know more about Gus Malzahn has him excited about the offer from the SEC.

"It's a big offer to pick up," Mixon tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "It's another SEC offer. It was a big one today. I like it.

"I like how they utilize the running backs," he adds. "They won the BCS Championship a few years ago."

Being recruited for the Tigers by offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and running backs coach Tim Horton, Mixon says he likes what he has heard from them so far and is anxious to get to know them better.

"They are really cool guys," Mixon says. "They are really chill too. They seem to be laid back. I'm just looking to build a relationship now."

Heading quickly towards three dozen offers including Auburn, Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, Mixon has plenty of choices when he gets ready to make a decision. Not planning to make a decision until after his senior football season, the talented runner says he's got several things in mind that he's looking for.

"I want to come in as a true freshman," Mixon says. "I'm looking for somewhere that has the academic support in the classroom. I also want a school that can get me to the next level. That's about it."

Mixon says he plans to visit several schools over the summer including Auburn.

As a junior, Mixon ran for 1,456 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding over 400 receiving yards. He added two interception returns for touchdowns as well in 2012.
