Mitchell Adding Offers; Visiting Auburn Again

Opelika 2014 prospect Jakell Mitchell talks about adding offers from Florida and Kentucky and discusses his upcoming visit for Auburn's Junior Day.

Opelika, Ala.—It has been a busy few days for 2014 prospect Jakell Mitchell from Opelika. In addition to helping his Bulldog basketball team reach the Regional Round of the Class 6A playoffs, he has also continued to add football offers from SEC schools.

On Wednesday, Mitchell and the Bulldogs saw their basketball season come to a close as they went down to Thompson in a game played on the campus of Alabama State University. After falling to Hoover in the Super Six Championships at Jordan-Hare Stadium to end the football season, Mitchell says it's tough to see the season end again without a title.

"We made a good run, but I don't think it should have ended that fast," Mitchell says. "We played hard and it just didn't go our way this time."

In addition to his basketball duties, Mitchell has also sprinkled in some football visits as well as he begins the recruiting process with his father Mario by his side. Checking out Florida last weekend, the talented tight end/linebacker says that the Gators and another SEC Eastern Division program added offers this week to join his early offers from Auburn, Duke, Rice and Tulane.

"I got another offer this past weekend from Florida and Kentucky offered me Monday," Mitchell notes. "Florida is a big campus and a great school. They are good people and good coaches. It's a nice environment. Kentucky is a great school, but I haven't really checked them out much."

One college that he's already familiar with is Auburn. Playing in nearby Opelika, the Tigers were his first offer and he made an unofficial visit recently to get more familiar with Gus Malzahn and his staff. This weekend he's planning on being back at Auburn for a huge Junior Day and he won't be alone.

"It's going to be a fun trip," Mitchell says of heading back to Auburn. "It's always fun going to a college and seeing what they have to offer for you. It's just going to be a good experience. Me, Stephen Roberts, Marquise Fulton and Marquise Wright are all going to be there.

"This visit will get me closer to the coaches," he adds. "I'll be able to talk with some of the players and see how the coaches are. I saw everything last time, but I want to check it out again."
