2014 DE Prospect Discusses Auburn Visit

Breeland Speaks is a talented 2014 defensive end prospect from Mississippi.

Jackson, Miss.—A physical defensive end prospect that also plays baseball and is a goal keeper for the Callaway High soccer team, Breeland Speaks took a visit last weekend to check out the Auburn Tigers as part of a monster Junior Day on the Plains. Getting the opportunity to talk with Coach Gus Malzahn as well as several assistants, Speaks says it was a great time for him and his family.

"It was fun," Speaks says. "It was my first time going there so I really didn't know what to expect, but it was a good experience. I'm just glad I went. I liked the facilities, coaching staff, and everything they stand for.

"I spent a lot of time with Coach Melvin Smith because he's really the one recruiting me," he adds. "I also got to meet with Coach Malzahn. That was a good talk with him and my parents. It was just good to be around the whole coaching staff."

Being recruited as a defensive end by the Tigers, the 6-3, 250 Speaks also had the opportunity to sit down with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner and says he likes what he heard from the former Auburn player.

"He's a good guy," Speaks says. "He seems like a guy that would coach me up real good and hopefully get me to the next level."

Hearing from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette at the moment, Speaks says the Rebels, Bulldogs and Ragin Cajuns have all offered already and he's hoping to get good news from Auburn down the road.

"Coach Smith said he wants to offer me, but he has to get the rest of the coaching staff on board," Speaks says. "I'm real excited about that."
