Running Back Kamryn Pettway Chooses Tigers

Kamryn Pettway is a big running back from Prattville High, who was previously committed to FSU says he will play for the Auburn Tigers.

Prattville, Ala.--Running back Kamryn Pettway became the first junior commitment for Auburn's 2014 football signee class when he announced on Sunday that he will play for Coach Gus Malzahn's Tigers.

"I just committed to Auburn," Pettway tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I really like the coaches there and just knowing that I'll be close to home.

"It's big for me knowing that they really needed me," he adds. "I feel like I can come in and help as a freshman."

The 6-0, 224-pound standout from Prattville High chose the Tigers over offers from Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky and South Alabama. Previously, he had committed to the Seminoles.

Pettway rushed for 1,126 yards on 115 carries as a junior while scoring a dozen touchdowns. He says that after his recent commitment to the Seminoles this time around it feels like the right one for him.

"I really rushed the decision," Pettway said of his original commitment to FSU. "I got a little too excited about my first big offer and I just committed too early.

"This one just feels right," he adds. "It means a lot to me. I can play in the SEC and also be close to home so my family and friends can watch me play."

Pettway and his family visited Auburn on Sunday and met with Malzahn, running backs coach Tim Horton and receivers coach Dameyune Craig, who recruits the Prattville area for Malzahn's staff.

"I like the facilities a lot," Pettway says. "They have a very nice indoor facility and a nice weight room. I like the coaches a lot and they make me feel comfortable. They sat down and talked with him and told me I could call them anytime I need something. They just make me feel real comfortable."

The impact that Craig had on Pettway's recruiting can't be underestimated. His contact at Florida State when he first began the recruiting process, now that Craig is back home at Auburn it all came together says Pettway.

"Having Coach Craig at Auburn is big for me because he's been trying to get me for a long time," Pettway says. "He was recruiting me at Florida State and now he's at Auburn. With him being so close to home now it just feels comfortable."
