In-State Running Back Gets Initial Offer

Class of 2013 football prospect Ito Smith is a player to watch as a running back.

Mobile, Ala.--Ito Smith, who played for one of the top Class 6A football teams in the state of Alabama last season, has picked up his first scholarship offer.

The 5-10, 185-pound junior at McGill-Toolen High School took a visit to the Georgia Tech campus on Saturday and said he picked up a scholarship offer for the 2013 signee class from the Yellow Jackets.

Smith said he is definitely interested in the ACC school. "It is exciting to get my first offer," he said. He noted that he is also hearing from other colleges and said that Auburn, LSU, Florida State and Arkansas State are on his favorites list.

As a junior he rushed for 751 yards and 13 touchdowns and added two more receiving touchdowns playing in an offense featuring quarterback Jason Smith, who signed with Auburn. "Jason is an awesome player," he said.

The tailback, who noted that he runs a 4.5 40 and bench presses 285 pounds, said he tries to be a complete back, noting that he believes he does the job as a blocker and a receiver as well as running the football. "I am a great blocker and I have good hands," he said.

The running back noted he is carrying a 3.0 grade point average, but isn't sure what he wants to major in as a college student. Athletically, football is his focus. "I don't play any other sports," he said.
