Auburn Feels Like Home For Hamilton

Talented linebacker prospect Shaun Hamilton talks about his visit to Auburn on Saturday and what has it feeling like home.

Montgomery, Ala—Just over two weeks until he makes his decision on his college choice at a ceremony at Carver High School, talented linebacker Shaun Hamilton made another trip to Auburn to see the Tigers on Saturday.

After checking out Coach Gus Malzahn and the team on the field in spring practice, Hamilton said he feels like he's got a very good grasp of all the information he needs to make his choice.

"I got a different vibe today," Hamilton said of his trip. "I think my mom really enjoyed visiting. I got a chance to see the players in live action. Today was a different visit than all my other ones. It was a good way to finish off recruiting knowing this is the last visit I'm making before my decision.

"It was a good vibe," he added. "It was really different. I didn't get the same feeling I do when I normally go there. It was a real good visit…my mom really enjoyed it. She was able to talk to Coach Malzahn. He talked to me before and after practice just making sure I felt at home and my parents felt at home."

With a final group of Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, Hamilton said one of the things he wanted to see the most this week was how Coach Ellis Johnson and the rest of the defensive staff worked on the field. Making visits on Wednesday and for the first day of full pads on Saturday, he notes that he saw plenty from the Tigers.

"I saw practice Wednesday in shorts and everybody looks like a star player in shorts just running around," Hamilton said. "With full pads you could really see how good people are and the physical level. It was good to see with my own eyes the needs on the team."

Watching Auburn on the practice field and seeing a lack of depth at the linebacker position for the Tigers, Hamilton noted he feels like it's a place he can play early.

"I watched them, but I feel like I'm the best linebacker in the country," Hamilton said. "I'm graduating early so that would put me in early over all the freshmen. I think I could go in spring training and I'm trying to earn a starting spot in August."

Now closing in on making his decision, Hamilton said that he has got certain things he is looking for out of a school. On Saturday he said he found everything at Auburn and three weeks from now he will let everyone know if that was enough to push the Tiger to the top.

"I'm just going to sit down and talk with my parents," Hamilton said. "I'll see what they think is best for me and my family. I'll just see what feels like home more.

"Today really made me feel like home with guys like Carl (Carl Lawson) and Elijah (Elijah Daniel) coming up to me saying how much Auburn needed me. It really meant a lot to me coming from guys who actually signed knowing they need linebackers."
