Tough Road Ahead For Baseball Tigers

Auburn has four SEC series remaining in the regular season after losing two of three on the road at Mississippi State.

With four weeks left in the SEC's regular season, Coach John Pawlowski and the Auburn Tigers still have plenty of work to do in order to secure a spot in the postseason tournament in Hoover. Currently 6-12 in conference play after dropping two of three on the road at Mississippi State over the weekend, the Tigers are just inside the 12-team cut line for the SEC Tournament.

Dropping a 6-3 decision in a suspended Thursday contest that finished on Friday, Auburn played one of its best games of the season in a 3-1 victory on Friday over the #10 Bulldogs. With an opportunity to win its third consecutive series on Saturday, Auburn fell 6-0 in the series finale and finds itself squarely behind the eight-ball with series remaining against Missouri and Florida on the road and Ole Miss and Arkansas at home.

Player of the Week: Senior Cullen Wacker was on fire for much of the week as he had multi-hit games in three of the four contests for the Tigers. Finishing 8-14 with four RBI and three runs scored, Wacker raised his average 27 points for the week and leads Auburn with a .336 mark.

Pitcher of the Week:

In what is becoming a broken record, Michael O'Neal earns the nod after winning his eighth game of the season in a 3-1 win over Mississippi State. Allowing just five hits and no runs in seven innings, O'Neal became the first Auburn pitcher to win eight games in a season since Grant Dayton finished 8-3 in 2010. He currently has an ERA of just 2.13 in 63 1/3 innings this season.

What's Next:

Auburn wraps up a seven-game road swing this weekend as the Tigers travel to Missouri to face the Tigers in a three-game series. Winning once on the road at Florida, Missouri is one game behind Auburn in the SEC standings and tied with Tennessee. A series win would give the Tigers a little breathing room over the former Big 12 program heading down the stretch in SEC play.
