Elite 2015 DL Enjoys Auburn Trip

Talented 2015 defensive lineman Daron Payne discusses his Sunday visit to Auburn.

Irondale, Ala.—Expected to be one of the top defensive tackle prospects in Alabama for the 2015 recruiting class, 6-3, 324 Daron Payne from Shades Valley was on the Auburn campus Sunday to check out the Tigers and meet with Coach Rodney Garner. A fan of the Tigers growing up, he says it was great to get an inside look at the campus and facilities.

"The visit was nice," Payne says. "I liked the facilities and the weight room and all that. He (Garner) sends people to the league. He knows what he's doing.

"They work hard," he adds of Auburn. "They would make me more than a football player. You can tell they really work with the players individually."

Already with offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, South Alabama, and Alabama in addition to Auburn, Payne says the early attention has been exciting for him and he's just taking everything in stride.

"I didn't know it was going to happen," Payne says. "I was shocked. It feels good."

One of the biggest offers came from the Auburn Tigers. Growing up watching and following them, he says it's great to get that kind of attention from his favorite school.

"It's amazing," Payne says. "It makes me happy."

Planning to make a visit to Tuscaloosa next month for a camp at Alabama, Payne says he hopes to visit Auburn sometime this fall for a game.
