"It felt pretty good. I didn't even know I was on North Carolina or Virginia Tech's radar," said Simmons of the two new ACC offers. Both are in my top five right now as is Rutgers, Tennessee and Georgia." Both Georgia and Tennessee had extended offers this past spring.
The rising senior recently visited both North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
"I just visited both schools a couple of weeks ago. Both coaching staff's were great; they showed me a lot of love. Both schools have great facilities and they also have great engineering schools," said the aspiring engineer of North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
Although he has a top five Simmons plans on letting the recruiting process play itself out for a while longer.
"I'm still keeping my options open. I am going to enjoy the recruiting process and probably make up my mind sometime during the season," said Simmons of a possible decision.
The long, rangy corner already held offers Arkansas, East Carolina, Florida International, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Old Dominion, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan and Wisconsin among others before spring drills finished in late May. He is also being actively recruited by Miami, Florida State, Purdue and Ole Miss. According to Simmons out of the schools that haven't offered Purdue and Ole Miss are recruiting him the hardest. Last month Simmons attended Miami's camp on June 9th.
"It was pretty cool. I felt like I performed pretty well at the Miami camp," said Simmons.
Last year as a junior at Jacksonville Lee High School Simmons had 26 tackles, two interceptions and three passes defended. He transferred to Raines High School this past spring.
