Heels Evaluating Norris

AIKEN, S.C. --- North Carolina already has a pair of wings on board in its 2014 haul, but the Tar Heel coaches continue to look for a perimeter scorer to complete the class. Among the shooters UNC is evaluating is 6-foot-7 forward Riley Norris.

The Tar Heel staff notched multiple viewings of Norris, a standout at Albertville (Ala.) High, at the Peach State Showcase during the July evaluation period.

"[North Carolina] and Indiana have been contacting me a lot," Norris said. "Their assistant has been contacting me and they are going to evaluate me."

"They want to evaluate me in July and then see from there," Norris continued about UNC's interest. "They are looking at two others I think for the shooting (role) so we will see how that goes."

Norris said he's been in contact with Tar Heel assistant coach Hubert Davis. He said Davis mentioned the possibility of taking an unofficial visit, but a date hasn't been set up.

"That's as good as it gets for a basketball program," Norris said about UNC. "They are always good."

To go with interest from North Carolina and Indiana, Norris is hearing from Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Tennessee.

"It's picked up a lot lately," Norris, who has visited Florida, Vanderbilt and Alabama, said of his recruitment. "It's been busy, really busy."

On the court, Norris impressed with his ability to make shots. Playing with Team Thad this past week, Norris showed good range on his jump shot, but also aimed to prove that he's more than just a catch and shoot player.

"I'm versatile," he said. "I usually shoot the ball well and stretch the floor."

"I always stretch the floor and just be athletic," Norris added. "The more versatile you are the more you can play."
