Tigers Announce Men's Hoops Schedule

Coach Tony Barbee's 2013-14 basketball team will open the season with five consecutive home games.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn men's basketball team announced its 2013-14 schedule on Friday and the Tigers will open the regular season with a home game on Nov. 8th vs. Nichols State.

Coach Tony Barbee, who is beginning his fourth season as head coach of the Tigers, will put his team on the court for a pair of exhibition games on Oct. 28th vs. Victory University and Nov. 1st vs. Paine College.

"I'm excited about the upcoming season," Barbee said. "Our guys have worked hard this summer at getting better and we have a lot of new players that are up to the challenge of improving our team. The SEC will be tough as always."

Barbee took his team to The Bahamas for a pair of exhibition games the first week in August. The Tigers won both games and the coach said he was pleased with how the team played as a unit in those contests.

Senior guard Chris Denson was Auburn's top scorer in the two exhibition games with 43 points. Junior guard K.T. Harrell scored 29 points and transfer forward, junior Chris Griffin, added 28 points.

Chris Denson is the leading returner scorer this season.

Barbee's new-look 2013-14 team features six true freshmen and a pair of juco transfers as the Tigers try to bounce back from a 9-23 season that included a 3-15 mark in SEC games.

The Tigers will play their first five games at Auburn Arena with Northwestern State, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Tennessee State visiting before the Tigers' first road trip to Iowa State on Dec. 2nd as part of the SEC-Big 12 Challenge.

Barbee's team will play a neutral site game vs. Illinois at Philips Arena in Atlanta on Sunday, Dec. 8th and has home matchups vs. ACC opponents Clemson on Dec. 19th in Auburn and Boston College on Dec. 22nd.

The Tigers will began SEC play on Jan. 9th at Ole Miss and this year's SEC Tournament will be in Atlanta.
