The recruiting process has really accelerated recently and Scout has already ranked the 2014 and 2015 classes, put together a 2016 Watch List and here are 10 freshmen to know.
Jake Bentley | QB | 6-4/207 | Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes
Bentley is the next star quarterback to come out of Byrnes. He is watching his brother Shuler Bentley run the show in 2013, but he will step in next year and put up big numbers for three years. Auburn has already offered Bentley and he will grab many more. He has great size, he sees the field well, he has big arm, and he understands the game.
Markail Benton | LB | 6-2/196 | Phenix City (Ala.) Central
There was chatter about Benton in middle school and he is off to a good start in high school. He has good size and he can run. He can play sideline to sideline and he has some pop when he makes a hit. Early on, it looks like he will be recruited as an outside linebacker.
Savales Cann | S | 6-1/180 | Bamberg (S.C.) Bamberg-Ehrhardt
South Carolina has already offered this young athlete. He plays with great maturity for his age and he is very smart in the secondary. He tracks the ball well, he has very good ball skills, and he covers a good amount of ground. He is going to get bigger, stronger, and he will become better in run support.
Connor Curry | QB | 6-1/167 | Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian
Curry is starting for this top program as a freshman and he has already thrown for over 800 yards and 10 touchdowns through three games. This kid has it and he is on track to being a top flight quarterback in the 2017 class. He looks off defenders, he puts the ball where it needs to be, and he really picks up things quickly.
Dante Demery | OL | 6-5/300 | Brunswick (Ga.) Brunswick
This young man created a buzz over the summer when he shined at Auburn. He is a big body, but moves very well. Likely playing some guard and tackle this year as a freshman, but he looks like a full-time tackle down the road. He is a good bender, he is an athlete, and he has good length.
Deangelo Gibbs | WR | 6-2/191 | Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge
This freshman looks like an upperclassman and he showed his talents over the summer at Baylor and Oklahoma camps. Baylor offered him a scholarship on the spot and many more will do the same. He is a big receiver with good speed and great hands and body control. He has the potential to become a top flight wideout in this class.
Maleik Gray | ATH | 6-1/188 | La Vergne (Tenn.)
Gray is one of the top football prospects in Tennessee right now. He has already picked up offers from Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt. He is a running back as a freshman, but projects more as a safety. He is very athletic, he has good size, and he is likely going to be at minimum a regional prospect.
Giovonnia Moore | LB | 6-2/215 | Columbus (Ga.) Carver
If you have followed recruiting for a few years, then you know Carver produces top prospects on a regular basis. Moore is a freshman that you will hear a lot about in the coming years. He is aggressive, he is strong, and he is fast to the ball. He doesn't have offers yet, but he will.
Dylan Moses | ATH | 6-1 1/2/218 | Baton Rouge (La.) LSU Lab School
This was arguably the most talked about middle school football prospect ever. He picked up an offer from LSU the summer before his eighth grade year and he recently committed to the Tigers. He will either be a big running back or a linebacker on the next level. He is a big athlete and could be one of the best in his class.
Tedarrell Slaton | OL | 6-5/311 | Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage
The keep getting bigger and bigger at a younger age. Slaton has took over the starting left tackle spot at American Heritage and there is a lot to like here. He is very light on his feet, he is flexible, and he moves well in space at tackle. He is already attracting attention from several big-time programs including Alabama, Georgia, and Miami.
These are just 10 names to know in the 2017 class and we will add to this list early in 2014.
