Smiths Station, Ala. – Smiths Station High School has been the surprise football team of the year in 6A with several senior athletes with offers from around the Southeast.
Leading the defense is senior middle linebacker Anfernee Moffett, who has propelled the Panthers to a 7-0 start.
Moffett, who went to summer camps at Auburn, Alabama State, Troy, Arkansas State, Alabama State, Kentucky and Western Kentucky, among others, is a physical player at 6-0, 225 and has caught the eye of college coaches.
"I have five offers – Arkansas State, UAB, South Alabama, West Alabama and Samford," Moffett said.
"It's going good," Moffett added of the recruiting process. "Arkansas State is on me pretty good. Western Kentucky is too, and UAB. I had Georgia Tech, but I don't know if they're still going to talk to me. I've talked with Kentucky. West Alabama, Samford and Alabama State.
"I'll probably make a decision toward the end of the season," he added. "I'm going to visit Arkansas, Arkansas State, Vanderbilt and Auburn and a few more."
Smiths Stations first big win of the season was against Auburn, a big upset at the time in week three. "Everybody thought we weren't going to win, but we shocked the state," Moffett said. "I'm just happy. I was shocked. We've never beaten Auburn before."
Last week the Panthers won a 3-0 slugfest to knock Opelika from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Panthers will take on Carver of Montgomery this week as they try to improve their record to 8-0.
