Huge Recruiting Weekend for Malzahn's Tigers

Auburn is playing host to a large number of bluechip football prospects this weekend as the Tigers play for a berth in the SEC Championship Game.

Auburn, Ala.--Coach Gus Malzahn and his assistants will be pulling double-duty this weekend as they coach the Auburn Tigers in a key SEC football game on Saturday vs. Alabama while playing host to more than 200 prospects who will be on campus this weekend to check out the 2013 Iron Bowl game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Most of Auburn's verbal commitments are expected to be in attendance, including a pair of players, safety Derrick Moncrief from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and defensive end Raashed Kennion from First Coast High in Jacksonville, Fla., who are on campus for official visits.

Also scheduled for an official visit is uncommitted defensive end Anthony Olobia, a 6-5, 245 junior college prospect from Arizona Western. Olobia, who has three years to play two seasons, has offers from Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Utah, Ole Miss and Kansas.

The visitor group is loaded with bluechip juniors and also has an impressive group of seniors such as local five-star product Rashaan Evans from Auburn High, who the Tigers are recruiting for their "star" rover position.

Keion Joyner

Keion Joyner, a five-star class of 2016 linebacker prospect, is expected to make the trip in to Auburn from Havelock, N.C., High along with teammate Kyran Bowman, a wide receiver.

Wesley Green

Other class of 2014 prospects who could visit this weekend include players such as cornerback Wesley Green from King High in Lithonia, Ga., who has made multiple visits to Auburn, bluechip quarterback Treon Harris from Booker T. Washington in Miami, Fla., running back Derrell Scott from Havelock, N.C., High and defensive end Spencer Williams, who is Kennion's teammate at First Coast High and a University of Cincinnati commitment.

Natrez Patrick

The impressive group of juniors includes four-star defensive ends Michael Barnett from Woodland High in Dorcester, S.C., and Natrez Patrick from Mays High in Atlanta. Another four-star junior, outside linebacker/defensive end D'Andre Walker, is from Langston Hughes High in Fairburn, Ga.

Three-star Ben Edwards is a safety from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., who is getting plenty of recruiting attention. He is expected to visit with his teammate, Victor Alexander, a junior linebacker. Also from Jacksonville, Dexter Carter, Jr., who plays for The Bolles School, is expected to visit.

Roquan Smith

Four-star junior defensive lineman Byron Cowart is expected to visit from Armwood High in Seffner, Fla. Four-star middle linebacker Roquan Smith from Macon County High in Montezuma, Ga., is considered one of the top prospects in Georgia for the 2015 class.

Juantavius Johnson

Jauntavius Johnson, a 2015 defensive tackle prospect who camped at AU last summer, has an offer from the Tigers and is expected to make the trip to AU from Lincoln High. Another defensive lineman with an early offer, four-star Kyle Phillips, is from Hillsboro High in Nashville, Tenn.

Arden Key

Four star junior defensive end Arden Key from King High in Lithonia, Ga., is on the visit list. Four-star Juuan Jennings, a safety from Blackman High in Murfreesboro, could be in for the game along with another Tennessee four star junior, cornerback Rico McGraw from Ensworth High in Nashville.

Another four-star junior, John Burt is a six-foot-four wide receiver from Lincoln High in Tallahassee, Fla.

Kerryon Johnson

Kerryon Johnson, an outstanding junior running back from Madison Academy, is expected to make a return trip to the Plains along with teammate Malik Miller, a highly-regarded 2016 running back. Both are getting plenty of attention from the Tigers. Another in-state prospect, junior offensive lineman Tyler Carr from Southside High, is making a return visit from the Gadsden area.

Daron Payne

Talented linebacker Richard McBryde from Charles Henderson in Troy is making a return visit. Daron Payne, a defensive tackle from Shades Valley who has an Auburn offer, is expected in this weekend.

G.G. Robinson

Junior tight end G.G. Robinson from Parkview, Ga., High, is the son of Gerald Robinson, an Auburn star defensive end and NFL player with the Minnesota Vikings. Bluechip cornerback Terry Godwin from Callaway High in Hogansville, Ga., is expected to make a return trip to AU.

Javon Patterson

Offensive guard Javon Patterson, who has an early offer from the Tigers, is expected to make the trip from Petal, Miss., High. Two more juniors from Mississippi, three-star wide receiver Anfernee Sullivan from Taylorsville and four-star linebacker Tim Washington from Yazoo City High, are expected to visit.

Christian Bell, a three-star defensive end from Hoover, is planning to check out the Iron Bowl along with big-play junior running back Eric Swinney from Sandy Creek High in Tyrone, Ga.

Brant Mitchell, a three-star middle linebacker from Webb School of Knoxville, Tenn., is getting attention from the Tigers as is wide receiver/safety Deddrick Thomas from Memphis Central High.

Rob Dowdy

Rob Dowdy, a three-star guard from Westerville South in Ohio, is coming in to check out the Tigers after being impressed with how the Tigers OL is performing under the direction of Coach J.B. Grimes.
