Position/Scout Ranking: He is rated three stars as the No. 28 tight end prospect in the country.
Why Auburn Signed Him: His combination of size, athletic ability and toughness should make him a good fit for Auburn's H-back/tight end role in Gus Malzahn's offense where the Tigers have just two scholarship players on the roster and both (C.J. Uzomah and Brandon Fulse) will be seniors during the 2014 season.
Quoting Mitchell: "That position (H-back) is what I do in high school actually. I don't want to say this, but it's very easy to me. I think I'll be a lot more flexible in that position with catching the ball, slipping out into the flats, different types of matchups with linebackers and that sort of thing. I think I bring a lot to the table with that sort of thing."
Worth Noting: After leading his team to the Class 6A state finals during an outstanding junior season, Mitchell did not play as a senior after suffering a knee injury in the summer. He has made a strong recovery and should be ready for action as a freshman this fall.
