Sweet Home Alabama
In the 2014 class, Texas State Coaches went out and signed 5 kids (Eddings, Schoenborn, White, Sherman, & Schrade) who hailed or had ties to the south. Only into the second month of the 2015 cycle and another target has emerged in running back Jaleen Thomas of Northview HS (AL). Although it's only been a few weeks since we let BobcatNation know of Texas State going after Thomas, he's been a target for a while. "Coach Tatum came down and they offered me a while back. He said he wants me to come down the next time I could. He likes me a lot. They're really high on me," said Thomas. Scout.com's National Recruiting Analyst have already rated the 6'0" 207lb RB as a 3-Star, but haven't ranked him yet in the field of backs. He currently has one other offer and being from the south it's no surprise that an SEC school has already jumped on him. Mississippi State has extended, along with Auburn and Florida State showing interest and staying in contact. The only visit in the near future that Jaleen has is an unofficial to check out Southern Miss, but he remains open and is willing to make plans. Possibly even to get down to San Marcos. "I'm trying as soon as possible to get down there to checkout the campus. It's a new program to me, but I could get used to it. I am interested in making a visit, but still not making any choices right now," said Thomas. He has an old 40 time of 4.63, which he looks to improve this spring. His size and running style is what has attracted the staff and Thomas knows what his strengths are. "The size I have. The way I run the ball, how hard I do. I do have good lateral movement, but I'm pretty much down hill between the tackles," said Thomas. Jaleen didn't hint at when he could be making a decision, whether it would sooner or later. One factor that will play into it is a program where he can fit in, have a second family. Speaking of family, he does have Texas ties. His brother lives in Killeen, 2 hours up the road on I-35 from San Marcos.
