Carr Focusing On Three As Recruiting Heats Up

Tyler Carr (Gadsden, Ala.) talks about his recruiting, his top three schools, and what he likes about the Auburn Tigers.

Birmingham, Ala.--One of the top offensive linemen at Sunday's Nike NFTC Combine at Spain Park, four-star Tyler Carr spent his time at both guard and tackle on the day and earned a spot in the final best-of-the-best group. It was just another step in the process for a guy that has seen his stock continue to rise in the last 12 months, now with offers from schools all over the country.

Despite having the opportunity to broaden his scope, Carr said he continues to focus mainly on three schools as he heads into the spring evaluation period for college coaches. Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia have all been at the top of his list for some time and while he's also looking at Penn State, Carr said at the moment it's still a three-team race as he continues to take multiple looks at the school on his list.

"I feel like it's a great thing," Carr said of his visits. "I feel like it helps me make a more informed decision on where I'm wanting to go. I has been pretty tight between the three right now. There are some new schools coming into the mix right now and I feel like they have a really shot too. It has been fun."

A frequent visitor to Auburn since last spring, Carr knows plenty about the program after coming to plenty of games while growing up. Seeing the Tigers win the SEC Championship and come within seconds of winning it all showed Carr that Gus Malzahn has things on the right track.

"The way it has turned around has spoken for itself," Carr said. "I think Malzahn has done a really great job at Auburn. He has recruited me very hard and has shown that he wants me. I have really enjoyed what they've got going on down there."

The coach that Carr has built the best relationship with is Auburn offensive line Coach J.B. Grimes. A coach that demands discipline from his players, but has the personality to also be considered a player's coach as well, Grimes is someone that has made a big impression on Carr.

"He's great," Carr said. "He's fun to be around. He has been to my school a few times. I can't wait to get back to Auburn for a practice and also for the A-Day game (April 19). It will be interesting."

Visiting Georgia last week and scheduled to be at Alabama again in the next few weeks before his return trip to the Plains, Carr said it's all about gathering information for him right now as he begins to narrow things down during his senior season.

"I have said that I'm probably going to make my decision in late October or November," Carr said. "I feel like I'm probably going to graduate early and enroll early, so I need as much time as I can to make that decision."
