Teammates with Auburn junior college signee Xavier Dampeer, a player already working as the second-team center for the Tigers this spring, Calvin said he's excited about the offer and he's looking forward to learning even more about Coach Gus Malzahn's program.
"It means a lot," Calvin said. "I have been dreaming about that offer. I know they just played for the national championship and one of my teammates just went down there in December."
Talking to Dampeer about the current state of things on the Plains, Calvin said one of the things he's interested in is the lack of depth at his position for the Tigers at the moment. Forced to move tackles such as Gabe Wright and Montravius Adams outside to end this spring, he said that's definitely something he'll consider when looking at a school.
"That's really big for me," Calvin said. "It's very important."
Also with offers from Akron, Temple and Texas State, Calvin is up to nine total offers. Hoping to make his decision sometime late in the summer before his season begins, the former Murrah (Miss.) High standout said at the moment three schools have risen to the top for him.
"I don't have a group of favorites, but I have a main three that I'm looking at right now," Calvin said. "Those are Auburn, Mississippi State and West Virginia."
As a freshman Calvin made 29 tackles with five and a half sacks, 12 tackles for losses and added an interception. He is expected to be a December graduate and will have three years to play two.
He plans to visit Auburn May 31 to check out the campus and meet with the coaching staff.
