Coach Nick Clinard's Auburn team shot a six-under-par total of 274 on Sunday to finish at 11-under-par 829 to trail Alabama (806) and LSU (822). LSU's round of 263 on Sunday was 17 strokes under par.
"It was a fun day in the final pairing and the course was scoreable early," Clinard said. "We played well, but just didn't make enough putts today. It was a very solid week and I'm proud of my team. We've had an outstanding spring season and are looking forward to NCAAs."
Senior Niclas Carlsson shot a second straight one-under-par 69 to lead the Tigers with a fifth place individual finish at five-under-par 205 on the par 70 Seaside Course.
Matt Gilchrest posted a 68 on Sunday to tie for 13th place at two-under-par while fellow freshman Will Long shot a 70 to finish 19th at 209.
The Tigers didn't have to count the rounds of 75 and 77 from Daniel Stringfellow on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday he helped his team with a 67, the low round of the tournament for the Tigers. That moved the junior up to 56th place individually.
Sophomore Jake Mondy's 72 didn't count on Sunday with only the top four scores used for the team result. He finished at two-over-par 212 for 32nd place.
Led by Bobby Wyatt, who posted rounds of 65, 61 and 66 to win the individual title, Alabama won the team title by 16 strokes.
Auburn, which repeated its 2013 finish of third place, finished four shots ahead of Georgia (833) while South Carolina, which entered the final round tied with Auburn, dropped to fifth place with a 283 score on Sunday to finish at 838.
The Tigers will return to action May 15th as host for an NCAA Regional at the Auburn University Club.
