Huge Series Win Over Hogs Keeps AU In Race

Auburn's two wins over Arkansas kept the Tigers squarely in the hunt for the postseason.

Auburn, Ala.--Needing a series win in a big way, the Auburn Tigers managed to do that with solid pitching and defense along with some timely hitting as Coach Sunny Golloway's club took two of three at Arkansas to keep its postseason hopes alive.

Currently tied with Kentucky for ninth place in the SEC baseball standings with three weeks remaining, Auburn is just two games out of sixth place and has plenty of time to make a late move.

Player of the Week: Auburn got production from up and down the order with Jordan Ebert's 5-15 week the best of the bunch. Bouncing from the leadoff spot down to the bottom of the order, the sophomore scored a run in all four games for the Tigers last week.

Dillon Ortman

Pitcher of the Week: It's tough to argue with what Dillon Ortman continues to do for the Tigers and this week was no different. In picking up his eighth win of the season in a 2-1 win over Arkansas on Friday night, Ortman allowed just one run on six hits in eight and one/third innings. For the season his ERA is down to an impressive 1.92.

Newcomer of the Week: Playing a key role for the Tigers as the backup to Blake Austin, freshman catcher Blake Logan did his part last week. In limited action the Muscle Shoals native was 4-6 with four RBI and one run for the Tigers.

Up Next: Auburn will face off against Mississippi State this weekend in a three-game series at Plainsman Park. Without a midweek game this week because of final exams, the Tigers will be looking for another series win to move closer to wrapping up a spot in the SEC Tournament in Hoover.

Currently on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament bid, Auburn likely needs to go 5-4 in the last nine conference games to have a chance at an at-large berth. Following Mississippi State, Auburn plays at Kentucky before wrapping up the regular season at home against LSU.
