Lang Impressed By Auburn Following Visit

McGill-Toolen 2014 shooting guard T.J. Lang talks about his look at Auburn on Monday, returning for his official visit this weekend, and more.

Mobile, Ala.--Originally signing with Virginia Tech last fall, 6-7 guard T.J. Lang finds himself once again going through the recruiting process after he was granted his release following the firing of Coach James Johnson, who was replaced by Buzz Williams. On Monday Lang took a trip to Auburn to check out the Tigers and get a chance to sit down with some of Bruce Pearl's coaching staff.

Checking out the facilities and the campus setting as well as talking with Chuck Person, Tony Jones and Steven Pearl, Lang said everything about the trip went very well and he's excited about returning this weekend for his official visit to the Plains.

"The facilities up at Auburn are unreal," Lang tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "This was my first time actually touring the school. I have been up there a couple of times just for basketball. I got to see the dorm rooms, the facilities, I got to see the recreation center and that was probably the most surprising thing to me was to see how much money they put into that.

"Saturday when I come back up I'll get to meet most of the players," he added about his official visit. "I have spoken to Tahj (Shamsid-Deen), I spoke to Chris Denson last night but he's a senior, and some of the other players through twitter and over the phone. I'm just excited to go back up and meet the players and see the rest of the campus."

"The thing that sticks out with me is just his enthusiasm and his personality. From what I have seen on videos and heard from former players he's just an unreal person to be around." Lang on Bruce Pearl

With Bruce Pearl unable to talk to recruits until his show-cause is up in August, Lang and his family (including father and former Duke player Antonio Lang) got a chance to spent a good bit of time with the rest of the staff to get a feel for them and their plans for the program. He came away loving what he saw and heard from the Tigers' staff.

"They are great guys," Lang said. "Coach Person, Coach Jones, Coach Steven Pearl, here is never a time I don't speak with them. They are straightforward people. They don't promise anything, which is always a good thing coming from coaches. They said you have to work for everything that you want. They said there is an opportunity to play, but it's not going to be given whatsoever. That stuck out with me a lot. They're not the type of coaching staff that is going to blow smoke and tell you something and then when you get on campus everything changes. They are just straightforward guys."

Even though he hasn't had the opportunity to talk to the head coach it hasn't kept Lang from learning as much as he can about Bruce Pearl, his style, and his energy. That's something he said has already made an impression on him as well.

"His playing style is great for players that can really shoot the ball," Lang said. "It's an up-tempo offense with a lot of shots and a lot of lob plays. With the type of offense they play you're always going to have the opportunity to score points. The thing that sticks out with me is just his enthusiasm and his personality. From what I have seen on videos and heard from former players he's just an unreal person to be around."

Still considering Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU and possibly Oregon State, Lang said he hopes to have a decision made sometime soon so he can focus on getting ready for school this summer.

"I think my decision will be made probably after my visit to Auburn," Lang said. "I have been p there (Mississippi State and Ole Miss) on unofficials before, but I don't think I'm going to take an official there."
