Commitment Analysis: Nate Craig

Auburn had Nate Craig on campus this weekend and it paid off. The five-star committed Monday night and National Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons breaks down the future Tiger here...

  • Prospect: Nate Craig
  • Hometown: Tampa, Fla.
  • High School: Tampa Catholic
  • Position: Wide receiver
  • Class: 2016
  • Size: 6-2/200
  • Ranking on Scout: | No. 1 WR | No. 2 in Fla. | No. 8 Overall
  • Recruiting: Auburn beat out Ohio State for Craig. He had plenty of other offers from the in-state schools among others.

  • Scouting Report: Craig is an athlete that could project on either side of the ball, but he is so good with the ball in his hands that offense is where he is projected.

As a wide receiver, he has size, strength, and good speed. He is a natural pass-catcher with strong hands who catches the ball well away from his body. His speed is good, but his burst is even better.

He will be a wideout who will get yards after the catch. Craig is built like a college receiver now -- he has great strength and he will be tough for defensive backs to tackle one-on-one.

His route-running is a weakness and that needs to be refined. Getting into his breaks, sinking his hips, and becoming more crisp in and out of his cuts will help here. He is still raw there and that will improve over time.

Overall, Auburn is getting a dynamic playmaker who can stretch the field, catch the tough ball across the middle or make a play in traffic. He is always looking to get up the field and he has the speed to separate from coverage down the field.
