Westry jumps on AU offer

Just days after receiving his Auburn offer after a head-turning camp performance, three-star defensive back Chris Westry has decided to become a Tiger.

Melvin Smith snags another one.

Auburn's defensive backs coach can now add class of 2015 emerger Chris Westry to his list of solid finds in the secondary. The newly-minted Scout.com three-star pledged his services to the Tigers on Thursday afternoon.

At 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, the Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf High School talent turned heads at camp over the weekend and he learned of a scholarship offer soon after.

“Coach Smith is probably one of the best coaches I have worked with next to my high school coach,” Westry told InsideTheAuburnTigers.com soon after adding the extension. “I actually didn’t feel a change between him and my high school coach. I felt like they were on the same page even though they don’t know each other. I just really enjoyed him because he’s a go-getter. He’s a guy that gets after it. He’s not going to waste his time. He’s going to get as much as he can out of the time he has with you.”

Westry, who Scout projects as its No. 73 safety in the class of 2015, worked out as a cornerback for the AU staff. He chose the Tigers over offers from Florida, UCF, South Florida and others. He joins fellow Floridians Chandler Cox, D'Anfernee McGriff and Ben Edwards on Gus Malzahn's 2015 commitment list.

InsideTheAuburnTigers.com, who confirmed the pledge with Westry, will have much more on this developing story.
