Commitment Analysis: Richard McBryde

Talented defender Richard McBryde should be a great fit in Auburn's 4-2-5 scheme down the road.

Prospect: Richard McBryde
Hometown: Troy, Ala.
High School: Charles Henderson
Class: 2015
Position: Linebacker
Size: 6-2, 215
Ranking On Scout: *** l No. 20 OLB l No. 9 in Alabama
Recruiting: Auburn has been the strong favorite since early in the process for McBryde. Also considered Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami and several others.

Scouting Report: McBryde is a physical and talented defender that is versatile enough to play in the box but could also play outside at the ‘star’ position if needed. At 6-2, 215, McBryde was a dominating defender for the Trojans last season and one of the main reasons why they allowed a touchdown or less to seven of 15 opponents.

Playing in the middle for Charles Henderson, McBryde is an instinctive defender that excels in getting downhill in a hurry and making plays in the backfield. That led to an incredible 36 tackles for losses for a non-defensive lineman in 2013. Understanding angles and how to flow to the ball, McBryde is rarely out of position and that’s a huge part of playing the linebacker position on the next level.

Scout’s Take: “One of the biggest hitters in the state of Alabama, McBryde has the combination of size and athleticism that reflects today's college game. He can play fast-flow and downhill or as an edge defender in space with the ability to turn and run with the tight end. It's no surprise that an Ellis Johnson defense would covet a versatile back-7 talent like McBryde's, able to play the traditional linebacker role as much as the hybrid "star" position down the road.” John Garcia
