A physical player on defense and a dangerous player with the ball in his hands, Atkinson helped his team to a 21-0 lead before they had to hold off a furious comeback to get the win. With a touchdown grab and several big defensive plays he said it was a huge game for his team to come away with the victory.
“It got very scary towards the end because we were up 21-0 and somehow they found themselves back in the game,” Atkinson said. “We had to stop all the panic and just play football.”
Athletic enough to play three different spots in Auburn’s 4-2-5 defensive scheme when he gets to the Plains, Atkinson noted that one of the things that stands out to him is his bond with the coaching staff and in particular Charlie Harbison.
“My relationship with Coach Cheese is good,” Atkinson said. “We talk every now and then, about twice a week. It’s a pretty good relationship.”
Planning to visit Auburn either the second or third week of the season, Atkinson said he feels good about his commitment to the Tigers, but still has possible visits to South Carolina and Georgia. As for where his loyalty lies he said that’s still on the Plains.
“I’m still pretty solid on Auburn,” Atkinson said. “War Eagle.”
