The latest to join the fray is the Auburn Tigers.
Showing his ability at an Auburn football summer camp as a sophomore, Davis was impressive because of his combination of size and speed. Developing his skills as a junior as Archer advanced to the state title game, he said the news finally came from the Tigers.
“I called Coach (Dameyune) Craig and he talked to me a little bit before he extended the offer,” the 6-3, 215-pound Davis said. “They are offering me as a wide receiver. I like it there. It’s pretty nice. I watched some of their games and they throw it around a little bit.”
Saying the offer wasn’t one he was expecting because he had not heard from Auburn a great deal during this past season, Davis is a player who should continue to see the offers roll in between now and the beginning of his senior season. Because of that he said he will take his visits and see what happens.
“It’s alright right now,” Davis said of recruiting. “It’s definitely eventful. It has gotten a lot busier. A lot of coaches have been to the school in the last month or so before the dead period.
“I’m not sure if I’ll do some this year or some next year, but I’m going to take them,” he added of his visits. “I’m still pretty solid with South Carolina at the moment, but my final decision will be maybe next year. I want to actually enjoy it because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
