Auburn Offer "Means A Lot" To Williams

2017 prospect Alaric Williams talks about getting an offer from the Auburn Tigers and what it means to him.

Gadsden, Ala.--One of the top football prospects in Alabama for the 2017 class, 6-1, 200 running back Alaric Williams already has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and others, but while visiting Auburn on Tuesday he got the news he’s been waiting for this year.

Spending time with coaches Gus Malzahn, Rhett Lashlee and Tim Horton while in Auburn, Williams checked out a basketball game against Alabama on Tuesday night at Auburn Arena, but that was far from the highlight of the day for him.

“It was great now that I got the offer,” Williams said of getting the news from Auburn. “I have been waiting for that for a minute. It was fun spending time with the coaches and my buddy Roc (Thomas) and getting to know the coaches.

“It means a lot to me,” he added of the offer. “Seeing the big running backs that they’ve had with Tre Mason and Roc and Peyton Barber, it means a lot to know that I could be just as good as one of them.”

The offer came from Malzahn himself when Williams had a chance to sit down with him and talk. It was a long time coming for the talented back, but he learned it was also a long time coming from Malzahn as well.

“He said he’s been wanting to tell me that I had the offer for a few weeks now,” Williams said. “They were trying to hurry up and get me down so they could tell me face-to-face that I have the offer so that it could be official. It felt good to sit down and talk to him and get the official offer.”

Teammates at Southside-Gadsden with incoming Auburn freshman offensive lineman Tyler Carr, Williams is also close with Thomas. Currently living with one of Thomas’ former high school coaches, Williams said two have become very close since getting to know each other. Having both guys on the Plains is something he said will be important for him down the road.

“It’s going to have a big factor,” Williams said. “It means a lot, for real, to see those guys doing good. They are doing well and it was just like yesterday I was chilling with both of them. Now they are doing big things. It could have a big factor in my recruiting.”

Still very early in the recruiting process, Williams said having the offers already make him feel good about the work he’s put in so far. Adding that he’s just going to enjoy the process while grinding to get more offers, at the moment he has a few teams on top at the moment with Auburn definitely in the group

“My top right now, and this isn’t in any order, is probably Ole Miss, Alabama and Auburn,” Williams said. “With Carr and Roc being down there, and I’m actually tight with Coach Horton and Coach Lashlee, I like both of them. Coach Gus is cool. They feel like a family there and that’s something good about Auburn. It’s like no other college.”
