Ready to get back on the Plains this weekend to see Auburn again and get a feel for new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, the 6-4, 253 Marshall said the Tigers are at the top of his list and a commitment isn’t out of the question.
“I’m just looking forward to getting back there and talking with the coaches and meeting the new coaches that came this year,” Marshall told Inside the Auburn Tigers. “I just like Auburn because I have a good relationship with the coaches. I like the atmosphere down there and how the coaches work hard with the players.”
The connection to Auburn is a solid one for Marshall with a strong relationship with defensive line coach Rodney Garner already through one of his AAU coaches (former Georgia player Johnathan Sullivan). He even has a connection with Muschamp, even though the two have never spoken in person.
“I know him from my grandmother,” Marshall said of Muschamp. “My grandmother used to babysit his wife because she’s from down there (Thomaston).
“Coach Garner is just a great coach,” he added. “He used to coach Jonathan Sullen at Georgia so he knows him well.”
With Alabama and Clemson also in the picture for the powerful defensive end, he said he wants to make a decision soon and get it out of the way so he can concentrate fully on his senior season. Making the trip back to Auburn this weekend could be good timing for the Tigers because Marshall said if things work out he could end things while on the Plains.
“There’s a chance I could commit,” Marshall said. “I have thought about it. I’m going to see.”
