Auburn Offer A Big One For Threat

Linebacker Tre Threat added an offer from the Auburn Tigers while on a Saturday visit.

Spanish Fort, Ala.--A physical linebacker that also excels as a pass rusher for the Spanish Fort Toros, Tre Threat already had offers from Clemson, Louisville, Ole Miss, Tennessee and several others before taking a trip to Auburn on Saturday to check out the Tigers.

Finally getting the opportunity to sit down and talk with new coordinator Will Muschamp, linebacker Coach Lance Thompson, as well as Gus Malzahn, Threat said he got some news from the head coach that he didn’t believe at first.

“When he told me that they wanted me up there I was in shock,” Threat said of getting an offer from Malzahn. “He asked me if I had any questions and I was like ‘yes I’ve gone one question, did you just offer me?’. I was in such disbelief I basically had to re-ask the question.”

A player that has made several trips to see Auburn in the last two years, Threat said getting the news from the Tigers while on his visit was just a huge moment for him because of what the program is all about.

“It means a lot,” Threat said of the offer. “It’s a big impact for me in this recruiting stage, especially at this point. I have been picking up a couple more offers, actually three, since February. This is a very large one. They are one of the top schools in the nation. For them to offer me is a great feeling.”

Like many of the visitors that have been to Auburn in the last few weeks, Threat said one of the highlights for him was getting to talk to Muschamp. A very energetic coach whether it’s on the field or watching film or even talking about football, Muschamp made a big impression and so did his talk about where Threat would fit in his scheme.

“He said I would fit in the regular package at every position,” Threat said. “He said I could fit at every linebacker position. He said he wouldn’t mind me even putting my hand in the dirt and playing a straight pass rusher. It looks like I would be a hybrid between a linebacker and defensive end.”

Planning to be an early high school graduate, Threat said Auburn is one of the schools he hopes to visit this fall as he tries to begin the decision-making process while at the same time trying to finish his high school career with a state championship.

“I haven’t really put much thought into it,” Threat said of having a favorite. “The schools are pretty even right now. I’m doing early graduation so I’ll probably make a decision right before my season starts or during the season.”
