Atewe Leaving Auburn Basketball Team

Sophomore center Matthew Atewe is leaving Coach Bruce Pearl's basketball team.

Auburn, Ala.--Matthew Atewe, who was injured and missed the 2014-15 Auburn basketball season, will not be returning to the team next season a source told Inside The Auburn Tigers. Atewe informed the coaching staff of his decision on Monday.

The six-foot-eight center from Canada suffered a fracture in his leg during the Tigers’ exhibition game and did not play during the regular season. He suffered an arm injury in March.

As a freshman he saw action in 24 games after missing the first five games with a leg problem. Atewe averaged 14.4 minutes per contest along with 1.5 points and 3.4 rebounds.

His top game for scoring came against Kentucky when he posted six points and that was also his top rebounding game with 13. In the last two games he played vs. Texas A&M and South Carolina the center did not score had eight fouls and no points.
