Already familiar with the Tigers and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, Clayton said it was great to get the news that Auburn had offered. While he is still a long way from making a decision, he noted that it is definitely a school he’ll have to consider.
“I talked to my coach today and he told me Auburn had offered,” Clayton said. “It means that I will have to fill the shoes of somebody else that leaves Auburn. I’ll have to take their place and hopefully lead by example and be an asset to the team.”
Athletic enough to play a number of different positions on the next level, Clayton said he has enjoyed getting to know Muschamp through the recruiting process. Realizing that Muschamp likes versatile players on his defense, he pointed out that is exactly what he is willing to be when he gets to the next level.
“I will play anything he wants me to play,” Clayton said of Muschamp. “I really don’t have any say on what position I would play. That is up to the coaches out there. If he needs me to play anything I will be happy to play it. He is just a really good person and works with the players as if they were his own kids. He is a pretty cool guy.”
Currently with offers from Colorado State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky in addition to Auburn, Clayton said he doesn’t have a leader and just wants to visit as many schools as possible in the coming weeks to start the process of finding the school that is right for him.
“I have talked to myself to remain focused,” Clayton said. “I try not to let it get to me. I want to remain calm about it and just find the best offer that fits me and my education. I will just take my time to think about it and try to get everything straight. I want to make sure I don’t have any regrets when I do make my decision.”
