The No. 87 overall pick, Coates decided not to return to his college football team as a fifth-year senior after catching 34 passes for 741 yards and four touchdowns last season. He finished work on his Auburn degree and graduated in December.
A second team All-SEC selection in 2014, Coates caught passes in his last 19 games for the Tigers and finished with 82 catches for 1,757 yards and 13 touchdowns in three seasons.
Coates measured 6-1 7/8, 212 pounds at his Auburn pro day and noted that he is currently at 215 pounds after working out in Auburn since then.
After being a standout at Leroy High in football, basketball and baseball, he was ranked as the No. 10 football prospect in the state of Alabama in the 2011 signee class by Scout.com. He was expected to play as a true freshman, but redshirted after suffering a preseason injury.
Coates played in 12 games with one start in 2012 and caught six passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
He started 12 times for the 2013 SEC champions as he caught 42 passes for 902 yards and seven scores. He finished third nationally in yards per catch that season at 21.5.
