With the victory the Tigers improved their record to 35-22 as they advance into the double-elimination portion of the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. CDT game vs. No. 1 seed LSU. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
News and notes:
*Left fielder Jackson Burgreen, who was 3-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two RBI, had his first three-hit game as a college player. The junior had his second collegiate triple with the other one coming vs. Brown in 2013.
*Auburn is now 3-0 vs. Kentucky in SEC Tournament games. The Tigers are 31-42 all-time in SEC Tournament games
*Prior to Tuesday’s game junior Jordan Ebert, who had a single and was hit by a pitch in his two plate appearances, was the only Tiger who had played in the SEC Tournament.
*With 10 strikeouts the Auburn pitching staff has 429 for the season, the most since 484 in 2010, the last season the team qualified for an NCAA regional.
*Daniel Robertson, who had three hits vs. Kentucky, drove home two runs. The sophomore first baseman has 21 RBI in his last 21 games.
*In his last seven pitching outings sophomore Cole Lipscomb has allowed just 12 earned runs and 40 hits in 49 2/3 innings.
*Damon Haecker, who was 1-3, has reached base in 12 consecutive games.
*Kentucky, which likely needed a victory to stay in contention for an NCAA regional victory, dropped to 30-25. The Wildcats tied their school record for consecutive SEC Tournament appearances with four. They are 21-31 all-time in the league tournament.
