5-Star Brown Talks About At Big Cat Trip

Derrick Brown talks about his visit for Big Cat Weekend.

Buford, Ga.--For five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown, Saturday’s visit for Big Cat Weekend at Auburn was something he had heard about before and wanted to be a part of. After getting the chance to play games, spend time with the coaches and also mingle with other top prospects with his family also in on the fun, Brown said the visit lived up to the hype.

“Oh yeah, it was definitely good to get everybody down here and talk to the coaches,” Brown said. “It was a very fun day for us. It was like two minutes of recruiting and then the rest was just about having fun.

“I had heard about Big Cat Weekend before, and it was a pretty good time,” he added. “So I thought it was exciting and I had fun down there.”

The most exciting part of the day for Brown? That was an easy call.

“Yeah, I mean I’ve never been on a recruiting trip where I’ve been racing golf carts around and stuff so that was cool,” Brown said. “It was definitely the racing golf carts. All five of us 300 pound guys sitting in a golf cart trying to go too fast and the thing tilts.”

Not planning to make a decision until either his all-star game appearance or on national signing day, Brown said he’s got a busy schedule with several camp visits lined up including The Opening on Oregon.

When he makes those trips it will be with the memory of a very good visit to Auburn fresh on his mind. Spending time with Gus Malzahn, Will Muschamp, Lance Thompson and Rodney Garner while on the Plains, Brown said the Tigers told him a simple message and it’s one that sticks with him and that he would have the chance to play early and make a difference.

“The roster right now,” Brown said of what stands out about Auburn. “I believe that I will be able to come in and have a good chance to play early.”
